BRISCEIN Aleš - tenor

Aleš Briscein studied originally clarinet and saxophone, later also opera singing at the Prague Conservatory. He continued his studies at the West Bohemian University in Pilsen. In 1995 he began singing as a soloist of the State Opera Prague and he sang several lyrical roles (Tamino in Mozart´s Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Almaviva in Rossini´s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Narciso in Rossini´s Il turco in Italia, Jenik in Smetana´s The Bartered Bride, Alfredo in Verdi´s La Traviata, Kudryas in Janacek´s Katya Kabanova etc.) He is a regular guest of the opera in the National Theatre Prague (The Bartered Bride, Don Giovanni, La Traviata, Jenufa) as well as at the State Opera Prague.

He participated in prestigeous festivals as Edinburgh International Festival, Prague Spring and others, he cooperates with outstanding orchestras, e.g. Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Royal National Orchestra etc. At Prague Spring in 2002 he sang as a world premiere the main tenor part of Jonathan in Sylvia Bodorova´s oratorium Juda Maccabeus. He recorded a CD of Pavel Haas´s opera The Charlatan for Decca Company.

  • 2000 - Kudryas in Katya Kabanova at the premiere of the opera with the Tokyo Philharmony
  • 2003 - From the House of the Dead with the Tokyo Philharmony; Des Grieux in Massenet´s Manon in Vancouver; Ernesto in Donizetti´s Don Pasquale in Cyprus.
  • 2004 he started his long-term cooperation with the Opera Nationale de Paris; R. Strauss – Ariadne auf Naxos, Der Rosenkavalier, Elektra; Janacek – From the House of the Dead, The Macropulos Affair; Verdi – La Traviata; Stravinsky – The Rake´s Progress); many opera performances both at home and in abroad - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, England, Spain, the USA, Japan.
  • 2008 - Janacek´s operas in Teatro Real Madrid (The Makropulos Affair); in Mexico City (Jenufa); London PROMS (Fate); with Paris opera - tour about Japan (Diary of One Who Disappeared).
  • 2009 - Opéra National de Paris - Jenik in Smetana´s The Bartered Bride; Janacek´s The Makropulos Affair; Beethoven´s Fidelo.
  • 2010 - Jenik also in Valencia; Berg´s Wozzeck in Antwerp; Boris - Janacek´s Katya Kabanova in staging of Robert Wilson; Ferrando - Mozart´s Cosi fan tutte; Nemorino Donizetti´s L´elisir d´amore.; Princ Dvorak´s Rusalka - National Theater in Prague, Volksoper in Vienna.
  • 2011 - Salzburg Festival - Janek in Janacek´s The Makropulos Affair; Belmonte - Mozart´s Die Entfürung aus dem Serail - National Theatre in Prague; Jiri - Dvorak´s Jakobin – National Theatre in Prague

His repertoir is very wide, he also likes singing the old and spiritual music (Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Rossini). He also cooperates with the Czech Radio and Czech Television.
